About Greyline

Good writing starts with understanding.

Greyline Writing is a ghostwriting and copywriting studio founded by Jonathan Jones following more than 12 years of writing for businesses across industries including law, immigration and video games.

What began with SEO and digital content has developed into a broader focus on ghostwriting, executive thought leadership and strategic copy.

The work has changed over the years, but the principle behind it hasn't.

Before you can write something well, you need to understand the person, business or idea behind it.

Why Greyline?

Not every idea arrives fully formed.

Sometimes it's a rough thought. An opinion that came out of a conversation. Something you've learned through experience but never properly put into words.

There is usually a point between having the idea and knowing exactly how to communicate it.

That's the grey line.

Greyline Writing exists to help bridge that gap.

We take the time to understand what you want to say, why you want to say it and how you naturally communicate. From there, we turn those ideas into writing that is clear, considered and recognisably yours.

The goal isn't to give you a new voice. It's to help you make more of the one you already have.

About Jonathan

More than 12 years spent finding the right words.

I've been writing professionally for more than 12 years, working across very different industries and types of content.

My career began primarily in SEO and digital content, where the challenge was often finding the balance between what search engines needed and what people actually wanted to read.

Over time, my work increasingly moved into complex and specialist subjects, particularly law, immigration and professional services.

That changed the way I approached writing.

When the subject is complicated, accuracy matters. When the person reading it may be making an important decision, clarity matters. And when the writing carries somebody else's name, understanding how that person thinks and communicates matters just as much as the words themselves.

Today, I bring that experience to Greyline.

I work with founders, executives and businesses on everything from website copy and in-depth articles to executive ghostwriting and thought leadership.

Different formats require different approaches, but I still begin in much the same way I always have: by listening.

Writing With a Purpose

The words still have a job to do.

Good writing shouldn't exist simply because a content calendar says something needs to be published.

A website needs to help someone understand why they should work with you. An article should give them something useful to take away. Thought leadership should communicate a perspective worth paying attention to.

And ghostwriting should sound like the person whose name appears at the top.

My background in SEO and content strategy means I also understand the commercial side of writing. Content may need to attract search traffic, start conversations, build credibility or encourage someone to take the next step.

Those objectives matter.

But they shouldn't come at the expense of producing something worth reading.

I've spent much of my career writing about legal, immigration and regulatory subjects, where accuracy matters and complex information needs to be explained clearly without losing important detail.

Some subjects are harder to write about than others.

Legal, immigration, financial, technical and other specialist topics often involve terminology, regulation and detail that cannot simply be stripped away in the name of making something easier to read.

I've spent a significant part of my career working with complex subject matter and turning it into content that remains accurate while being understandable to the people it is intended for.

That experience has taught me when something needs explaining, when detail matters and, just as importantly, when another paragraph isn't adding anything.

You shouldn't need to choose between expertise and readability. Good writing should give you both.

A More Personal Way to Work

Greyline isn't designed to be a high-volume content agency.

When you work with Greyline, the emphasis is on understanding your business, your audience and, where the writing carries your name, your voice.

That means asking questions before writing, taking feedback seriously and developing a better understanding of how you communicate as the relationship develops.

For ongoing ghostwriting and thought leadership clients, that familiarity becomes particularly valuable. Over time, conversations become easier, briefs become shorter and the writing becomes increasingly natural.

The aim is simple. To produce writing you're comfortable putting your name to.

Your ideas are already there.

Sometimes they just need the right words.

Whether you're looking for someone to write in your voice, develop your thought leadership or help communicate what your business does, let's start with a conversation.
